Overview
Senai International Airport is in the town of Senai, close to Johur Bahru in Malaysia. Situated about 25 kilometres northwest of Johor Baru Senai is the home to many multinational electronic companies as well as the airport. The airport can handle up to 4.4 million passengers each year and 100,000 tonnes of cargo.
The Aero Mall or Aeropolis is a retail space of around 25,000m2 built by the airport operator and opened in July 2010. In a two kilometre radius round the airport there are over 45 major manufacturers and around 40,000 people living in the area.
History
The airport opened in 1974 and the original intention was to stop passengers and freight going to nearby Singapore for transport. The rapid development of the South Johor area has now made Senai International Airport into a major hub in Malaysia.
Runways
The runway has been extended to 3800 metres and a parallel runway built to accommodate more aircraft. .
