Firefly

FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary of Malaysia airlines with a head office situated at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Malaysia but while the two companies operate side by side Firefly is operated by a completely separate management team.

Firefly started operating in April 2007 by flying out of Penang with two 50 seater Fokker F50 aircraft but within six months business was booming and the airline expanded by acquiring a third aircraft. This growth continued rapidly and Firefly ordered 10 ATR 72-500 aircraft and by the end of 2008 all the Fokker F50’s had been replaced.

Firefly further experimented with various aircraft in their fleet such as the Boeing 737-400 and the Boeing 747-800 but in December 2012 they settled on the ATR 72-600 and 20 new aircraft will be gradually phased into service.

To go with the aircraft the cabin crew have been given new uniforms and the website has been rebranded to keep Firefly in front as a market leader in the region with a promising year ahead.
