Overview
Sibu Airport is located 25 kilometres south east of the town of Sibu, in the state of Sarawak. The airport is an important hub for the state, connecting a number of towns in its area of service. The present airport began operation in June 1994, after the old airport was demolished as Sibu developed.
The airport offers daily flights from two arlines, namely Air Asia, and MASwings. AirAsia offers flights to three destinations, Kuching, Johor Bahru, and Kuala Lumpur via KLIA. MASwings offers flights to Kuala Lumpur via KLIA, in addition to Kuching, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Limbang and Miri. The airport does not offer any international flights at the present time.
The airport building is a spartan but modern single storey structure, with both arrival and departure halls located on the ground floor of the building. Facilities at the airport include car rental counters, Automated Teller Machines, and a restaurant. There is no currency exchange at the airport.
The airport's normal operating hours are between 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. In event of flight delays, the airport will remain open until the flight has taken off, or has been cancelled.
The airport is located 25 kilometres south east of Sibu, having been relocated in 1994. Coupon taxis are available at the airport and the average fare between Sibu and the airport is around RM25. There is no public bus service that includes the airport as a stop on its route.
