Malaysia Airlines Appoints Ahmad Luqman as New COO

In an announcement made today Malaysian Airlines Berhad (MAB) revealed the name of the man who will replace Izham Ismail as the group chief operations officer. This will be Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi.

 Luqman will officially take over as COO from Izham from 1st February, 2018, while the now former COO Izham is now appointed as the group chief executive officer.

Before his new position, Luqman was the CEO of MAB Kargo since September 2015, where he was responsible for the “strategic formulation and development of the Groups’ cargo business strategies and direction”. During this time, Luqman positioned the MAB’s cargo subsidiary as the top cargo carrier in Malaysia and it recorded a growth in business volume of 18%. He also led the cargo carrier through a process of digitalization to help it take advantage of the growth of e-commerce business in Asia Pacific.

In a statement about his new successor, Izham said:

With over 20 years with the company, Luqman has vast knowledge and experience to draw upon when leading the operations and engineering divisions. With his six sigma training and recently completed business leader development programme from the University of Oxford, I am confident that he is well prepared to take on the challenge of bringing these two key functions to new levels of efficiency.

Luqman started as a management trainee in Malaysia Airlines. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Syracuse University.

MAB Signs an MOU with Celcom

Malaysia Airlines has today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Celcom Axiata Berhad. This will allow Celcom customers to more easily earn and spend their Enrich miles, get flight discounts with the airline as well as other benefits.

The MoU was signed by Michael Kuehner, Chief Executive Officer of Celcom Axiata Bhd and Malaysia Airlines Bhd new CEO Izham Ismail.

Speaking about the strategic partnership with MAB, Celcom CEO said:

Both Celcom and Enrich customers will soon enjoy an awesome experience of innovative digital offerings and rewards that will further ‘enrich’ their travelling lifestyles.
