Malaysia Airlines Offers AMEX Members 15% Discount

2nd Oct 2014

If you are an AMEX member with enough Membership Reward points to boot, massive discount awaits you if you purchase your air tickets with Malaysia Airlines.

The conversion rate for the AMEX and Malaysia Airline’s Enrich program is approximately 1:1 which means your 10,000 MR points translates to 11,150 Malaysian Airlines Enrich miles.

What's more await AMEX card holders if they travel with Malaysia Airlines? If you decide to convert your MR points to Enrich miles and use them to purchase a Malaysia Airlines ticket you will need less miles than what is regularly required whichever class you may want to get starting October 15.

If you happen to be coming from either of three Aussie cities of Perth, Adelaide or Darwin going to Kuala Lumpur, you only need 24,000, 20,000 and 13,750 Enrich miles, respectively, to get a business class seat on Malaysian Airlines.

Customers normally shell out 40,000 miles for the one-way Perth or Adelaide-Kuala Lumpur trip on a business class using their Enrich miles. For the Darwin-Kuala Lumpur route, you would normally need 27,500 Enrich miles for the one-way flight.

If you feel you need to fly onwards to either Hong Kong or Singapore, you simply need to top off your Australia-Kuala Lumpur miles with extra 16,500 miles and 8,750 miles, respectively. But you need to book these trips separately, not as a single ticket. Thus, you need to book two separate tickets for your onward trip to, say, Hong Kong - one for the Australia-Kuala Lumpur leg and another for the Kuala Lumpur-Hong Kong leg.

For onward flights to Istanbul and Frankfurt from Kuala Lumpur, you only need 112,000 more (from 160,000) Enrich miles for first class seat; 38,500 (from 55,000) for business class; and 21,000 (from 30,000), all for a one-way ticket.

You only have until October 15 to redeem your Enrich miles to enjoy these discounts but your ticket is valid for travel until December 15, 2014.
