Long Seridan Airport (ODN), Long Seridan

Overview

The settlement of Long Seridan is in the Marudi division of Sarawak and about 590 kilometres from Kuching, the state capital. The small Kelabit village is the hub for all the surrounding settlements and it is here that the local people come for education and medical help. There is longhouse accommodation for guests who wish to explore the interior, but don’t expect too much. Main tourist activities are visiting Penan settlements, fishing and jungle trekking. Long Seridan Airport is squashed between the village and the river and one end of the runway is about 60 metres from the water.

The airport is owned by the Malaysian Government and operated by Malaysian Airports Sdn. Bhd.

History

The STOL runway at Long Seridan Airport was built in 1963 by Ghurkha engineers. Over time because of heavy rain and flooding Squadron 34 had to airdrop a bulldozer blade and Ferguson tractor into Long Seridan to be used to improve the airfield.
