Less Than 1,400 MAS Staff Left to Accept MAS Bhd Offer

Less than 1,400 Malaysia Airlines staff have another week to decide on joining the new carrier, Malaysia Airlines Bhd.

With about 90% of staff from the now defunct Malaysia Airlines accepting the offer and just 0.8 per cent refusing it this past Friday, the new carrier, Malaysia Airlines Berhard has decided to give more time for the remaining 9 percent to think more on the offer.

The 1,400 “undecided” will have until Friday this week to say if they want to join MAS Bhd or not.

The new Malaysia Airlines Bhd Christoph Mueller said the carrier has decided to extend the deadline to 19^th June (Friday).

In his email, Mr. Mueller said:                            

This is to provide the opportunity to staff that are away from the base or are on medical leave to give us their response.

20,000 Terminated From MAS, 14,000 Offered Jobs at MAS Bhd

On 1^st of June, Malaysia Airlines has terminated an entire, 20,000-strong workforce. It has offered jobs to only 14,000 people in the new airline, Malaysia Airlines Berhard, but has sacked about 6,000 employees.

Malaysia Airlines Bhd will take over operations from MAS on 1^st of September this year.

The once number one Malaysian carrier was forced to make this move due to heavy financial problems it was facing in the last few years. These were made even worse when the public image of the company was shattered after two of its planes crashed last year, the resulting accidents killing over 500 people on board both planes.

MAS flight number MH370 was flying for Beijing Capital International Airport from Kuala Lumpur International Airport when it crashed in South Chinese Sea on 8^th March, 2014 with 239 people on board and is yet to be found.

MAS MH17 was shot down over Ukraine on 17^th June, 2014. The 283 passengers and 15 crew were on a return flight from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to KLIA2 in Kuala Lumpur.
