Celcom Axiata CEO Shazalli Ramly Not Taking Over as MAB CEO

22nd Apr 2016

When Christoph Mueller announced he is stepping down as Malaysia Airlines Berhad chief executive officer after less than a year, speculations as to who could replace him began almost immediately.

Among the several names rumored to replace Mueller was Shazalli Ramly, current CEO at Celcom Axiata and also a board member at Malaysia Airlines. However, Shazalli has today denied the possibility of him taking over MAB as CEO, saying:

No I will stay as a non-executive board member as planned. I’ll leave it to Khazanah to decide on the rightful replacement for Christoph.

Interestingly, Shazalli was also rumored to be in the line for the position before Mueller was appointed as the CEO.

Shazalli was speaking to the reporters at the launch of his company’s First Platinum postpaid card, where he said he hopes to increase its data subscriber base by a minimum of 35 per cent this year.

He said:

The whole industry will be facing continuous pressure and erosion on our overall margin. We have a strong focus on our cost management, and we have introduced smart spending and cost saving programme throughout the whole organization.

MAB has today also announced that members of its Enrich Loyalty Program can from now on earn and redeem miles while they are traveling with MAB partner airline Emirates.

Head of MAB Enrich and Loyalty Khairul Nisa Ismail said:

Enrich members are entitled to earn Enrich miles on any qualifying Emirates flights. Furthermore, they can utilize their Enrich Miles to redeem on any flights marketed and operated by Emirates from 31st March, 2016, onwards.

She also added this would allow Enrich members to get their miles to over 90 destinations across Europe, the Americas, South Africa and more.

The redemption, she said, is not applicable on codeshare flights.
