Overview
Ba'kelalan is a small village in a hilly area of Sarawak, Malaysia. The village and airport are only separated from the Kalimantan by one mountain. Kalimantan is the Indonesian side of the island of Borneo that Malaysia shares. Passengers must weigh themselves and all luggage before travelling and there are customs facilities if needed.
The airport is publicly owned and operated by Malaysia Airports, Berhad.
Runways
The runway is tarmac and suitable for turbo prop aircraft and light jets. The airport does have the IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) facility. This helps the aircraft with landing and take off even in bad weather or when it is dark.
Terminals
The mainly one storey wooden terminal building is neat and good care is taken of it. Basic facilities of toilets are available but not much more. The surrounding gardens and lawns are beautifully kept.

Transport To and From the Airport
The airport is more or less in the town of Ba'kelalan so transport isn’t really necessary. To get from Ba'kelalan to other areas you will need good transport like special dirt bikes or trucks with monster tyres and 4 wheel drive. The road is a timber track and the condition depends very much on the weather. Journey time to Lawas is round six hours if you don’t get stuck! There is an alternative dirt road if you have a motor bike but even that takes two hours.
