AirAsia: We Have No Choice but to Take Action against Malaysia Airports

7th Aug 2015

CEO of AirAsia Aireen Omar said that the problems at the Kuala Lumpur Airport’s Terminal 2 “wasted” the Malaysian airline’s time and money.

Aireen also said the carrier had been in talks with the Malaysia Airports for over a year now and has also been in contact with authorities on a regular basis regarding the safety operations at the KLIA2, long before the second terminal at the Kuala Lumpur Airport was even opened.

She further noted that these issues were never resolved for good and they keep disrupting the airline’s operations at the airport.

It’s Affected Our Passengers, Pilots, Engineers and Staff

Announcing the partnership between AirAsia Badminton Academy and Fleet International Holdings Bhd, Aireen said:

It has affected our passengers on the delays, including our pilots, engineers and staff on other matters as well. It cannot continue like this where we have to accommodate its (MAHB) deficiency.

She also said that, up until now, the carrier has received no news about its RM409.44 million loss legal claims from MAHB.

She said:

Let us see how it is because this is not something we just thought of overnight. We are serious and have been working on this for over a year or so as soon as we’re asked to move to KLIA2.

Thai Operator More Accommodating

As an airline operator, Aireen Omar said, Malaysia Airports Bhd should be more supportive to the airlines and look at them as a partner, since most of its aircraft orders had to be deployed to either Indonesia or Thailand.

About this, the CEO of AirAsia said:

That’s a shame because we could have built more connectivity in the country. But no, Thailand gets it more now, the Thai airport operator is more accommodating and is able to facilitate the low cost carriers’ needs than over here in Malaysia.
