AirAsia Organizes Relief Campaign For Flood Victims

26th Dec 2014

The airline was among the first to respond to government's call for help for the victims of massive flooding along the eastern seaboard of the country.

Dubbed East Coast Relief, the campaign was organized by the airline quickly after seeing the devastation caused by the massive flooding in the region.

The airline allowed its planes for use to transport relief goods and aid workers to heavily affected states of Kota Baru and Terengganu. It will also organize a fund drive to collect cash donations by December 31.

Organizations and relief agencies who require air transport assistance should contact the airline through its email address, [email protected]. They will get instructions on how to deliver, and also the proper procedure in sending whatever assistance they will extend.

The airline has been closely coordinating with Umno Youth Information Bureau to dispatch relief goods and food supply to Kota Baru. It has also pledged Mercy Malaysia to help them transport medical relief goods to the affected areas.

Some of the airline's staff and their families who hail from the East Coast were also victims of the calamity as their houses were either washed away or severely damaged and their livelihood were all gone.

In his public statement, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Bhd. Executive Chairman, expressed his sympathy to all the flood victims, while assured their own employees to ease their grief and mental anguish caused by the catastrophe.

The airline's own fund drive shall be launched on December 31 in its effort to collect enough cash for post-flood activities, such as the clearing of debris and rebuilding or repair of damaged schools and hospitals.

Donation boxes will be placed aboard all AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia X flights starting December 31 until January 18, 2015.

Customers who book online effective January 5 next year will be given an option to donate to the relief fund campaign.
