World’s Cheapest Airlines Mostly In Asia

9th Jul 2014

Low-cost carriers from Asia dominate the list of airlines with the lowest fares in the world. Half of the top 10 cheapest airlines come from the Asian region, while the other half is shared between Europe, Africa, and North America.

The other Asian carriers included in the top 10 list are AirAsia (Malaysia) at 4th place, IndiGo (India) at number 8, and Tigerair (Singapore) in the 9th position.
Based on the data compiled by an online entity, whichairline.com, it was gathered that Asia has the world's most affordable airlines to fly with. The resulting data were based on the average cost of a one-way ticket (with free checked baggage) offered by most budget airlines around the world.
In its final analysis, Firefly emerged as the airline offering the cheapest one-way tickets, averaging about €30 (RM131).
SpiceJet of India came in second with its one-way ticket priced at an average of €52. With an average of €56, Turkish airline, Onur Air, completed the top three.
Asia's largest and pioneering low-cost carrier, AirAsia, trailed behind at number 4. The Malaysia-based budget airline has seven subsidiaries in the region, which enables it to capture the largest market of budget travel in Asia.
Though Irish-based Ryanair is the largest low-cost carrier in Europe, it is now obvious that it is not the cheapest way to travel, but Onur Air from Turkey.
Aside from Onur Air, two other Turkish airlines made it to the list, namely, Atlasjet (6th) and Pegasus Airlines (7th).
Rounding out the top 10 list are FastJet (5th) from Africa and VivaAerobus (10th) from Mexico.
