Will AirAsia Reduce Fares to Maldives?

24th Aug 2015

AirAsia will restart its operations to Maldives in October, but it is still unclear if the popular Malaysian carrier will actually reduce fare prices.

This Sunday, Maldivian agency All H Maldives revealed they are trying to convince AirAsia to bring the ticket prices down.

Managing director of this agency, Abdul Hameed Abdul Gafoor said they are in talks with the airline:

Tickets are currently being sold at normal fares. We are in discussions with them [AirAsia] to reduce it; we are working to reduce the fares as much as possible.

The low-cost airline decided to go back to Maldives last month and already started selling tickets. In fact, customers were able to get a promotional return ticket fares for only RM604 (USD$142, MVR2.189)

Addo also said:

Customers who purchase tickets online early will receive them at lower rates than normal fares.

Since both AirAsia and MAS discontinued their flights between Maldives and Malaysia, travelers no longer had a direct connection between the two countries and had to use alternative routes.

AirAsia suspended flights to Maldives in February, 2014.
