MyCEB and Malaysia Airlines Partner for Business Events in the Country

Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has called upon Malaysia Airlines Bhd to help it promote business tourism and major events in the country. The two entities have agreed to work together on sales and marketing for a period of one year.

CEO of MyCEB (Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau) Zulkefli Sharif said Malaysia expects to have 36 million tourist arrivals by 2020 and that 8 per cent of that number will come from business events MyCEB will sponsor. In 2015, over 200 business events MyCEB sponsored was visited by 5 per cent of all tourists arriving in the country. This earned Malaysia approximately RM1.3 billion.

Datuk Zulkefli said:

This year, we remain confident of the business, against the backdrop of an economic slowdown, and especially with our strategic partnership with the national carrier, Malaysia Airlines Bhd.

Zulkefli also added, with the partnership now made official, MyCEB and MAB will work together on promoting Malaysian business tourism and will aim to get more international business events in the country, particularly in the medical, gas and oil sectors.

Furthermore, Zulkefli added, the partnership with Malaysia Airlines Bhd will also be used to secure some new business events in India, Indonesia and China, saying:

We managed 42 international events last year, which attracted 279,392 patrons, raking in an impressive tourist expenditure of RM449 million. This year, we are targeting at least 50 events or more.

Meanwhile, head of sales at Malaysia Airlines Laurent Recoura welcomed the partnership with MyCEB, saying:

As the country’s national airline, we are fully supportive of the country being the leading destination for business event and tourism. Guests who choose Malaysia for business tourism will have the opportunity to benefit from the internationally accredited conference facilities within the beautiful and tranquil settings of Malaysia.

Recoura added:

 Our comprehensive network within the country is the perfect complement to this, as the best way to fly to, from and around Malaysia.

The MAB head of sales concluded by stating his belief the partnership with MyCEB will enhance Malaysia Airlines’ plan to become profitable in two years.
