Malindo Air Teams Up With All Nippon Airways Japan

22nd Aug 2017

Malindo Air has teamed-up with All Nippon Air (ANA) of Japan. The partnership, the two airlines said, will be beneficial to both. On one side, Malindo passengers will be able to more easily connect with more than 200 routes operated by the Japanese carrier; while on the other hand, this allows ANA customers to tap into Malindo’s regional network out of the Malaysian capital.

The carrier said in a statement:

The new bilateral interline agreement allows seamless travel with the convenience of a single reservation across both airlines' network.

ANA will be the fifth inter-airline partner for Malindo. The previous four were Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airline and Oman Air.

Malindo Air Chief Executive Officer Chandran Rama Muthy said:

We are delighted to partner with ANA, one of the world's leading airlines for its excellence in hospitality. With ANA, our passengers will be connected to more than 200 global and domestic destinations through ANA's hubs in Narita [and] Haneda.

He also added that the inter-airline partnership with five other carriers allows passengers from a wider network to visit Malaysia and enjoy its hospitality.

Malindo CEO said:

At the same time, this will also increase the number of transit passengers at KLIA. Our extensive route network provides better options for passengers who travel for both the business and leisure segments.

Since officially starting operations in March 2013 as a hybrid airline, Malindo Air quickly outgrew this status to become a premium airline and is currently serving no less than 45 routes in the region in 16 countries across the world and operates more than 800 flights every week. As of 31st July this year, the carrier has 29 Boeing 737NG and 16 ATR72-600 planes in its fleet.

Malindo Air is also a member of the Indonesian Lion Air Group, which owns 49% stake in the Malaysian carrier. The other 51% is owned by the airline’s CEO Muthy, who said that Malindo Air is planning a brand change to get a better position in the Lion Air Group. In May this year, it was announced that Malindo Air will change its name to Batik Air in the second half of this year.
