Malindo Air Announces Direct Trichy to Penang Flights

Malaysian hybrid carrier Malindo Air and Tourism Malaysia announced on Wednesday 30^th September the launch of direct service from Trichy Airport in India to Penang. The airline also operates 10 other services from Kuala Lumpur to Trichy.

This way, Trichy becomes the first airport to offer direct service to Penang and back.

Malindo to Service the Route on Tuesdays and Saturdays

The airline has scheduled flights between the two destinations for Tuesdays and Saturdays every week. Its planes will take off from the airport in Penang at 8:30 in the evening and will touch down in Trichy about an hour later at 9:40 p.m. As for return flights, aircraft will depart from Trichy at 10:30 p.m. and arrive in Penang the following morning at 4:45 a.m.

Malindo Air Chief Executive Officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the following about the new service:

Firstly we are excited to announce the wonderful news of our expansion in the cities of India. We foresee an encouraging passenger growth from South India, particularly Trichy, a huge market for Malaysia as a large portion of Malaysia’s Indian population is from this region of India.

Noor Azman Samsudin, Director at Tourism Malaysia also gave his comment on the launch of the new service:

The decision by Malindo Air to start this new route emphasizes the value and importance of tourism, trade and business links between India and Malaysia. In fact, India is the sixth largest contributor to the tourism sector in Malaysia. We hope that this new air link will contribute to boost tourism in support of MYFEST 2015, encouraging Indian tourists to come more often and stay longer in order to enjoy the festival offerings nationwide.

Malindo Air will use Boeing 737-900ER plane to operate the route. This aircraft has a total seat capacity of 180, of which 12 seats are in the business and 168 in the economy class.
