Malaysia Airlines To Take A New Flight Path

18th Jul 2014

Effective immediately, Malaysia Airlines will follow a completely new flight path over European air space after last week’s deadly crash of flight MH17.

The MH17 flight was already on a cruising altitude over Ukraine's troubled eastern region a few hours after it left Amsterdam on its way to Kuala Lumpur when it went down, apparently hit by a surface-to-air missile.

According to the airline official, the aircraft didn't attempt to make a distress call prior to its crash.
The aircraft was reportedly following its usual European flight path which was declared as safe by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ICAO confirmed that the aircraft was not taking a restricted path.

MH17 was carrying a total of 298 people on board including 283 passengers and 15 crew members. Dutch nationals comprised the majority of the passengers, with 193 on board. The flight crew were all Malaysian nationals.

The airline is still in the process of identifying the nationalities of other passengers as of press time. They are already sending notification to relatives of the victims.

The airline source also said that they are deploying its 'Go Team' to Amsterdam, which is composed of a group of caregivers and volunteers that extend assistance to the bereaved family members who will be going there.

Airline officials said that they're sending their condolences to all the families of the victims and promised to provide them updates on the situation.
