“Give us Different Passenger Service Charges”, Says Fernandes

19th Dec 2017

When he is not happy about something, Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group head honcho has no problem saying it. The latest to tick the AirAsia boss the wrong way was the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

Namely, the Malaysian airport regulator decided to equalize the passenger service charges (PSC) at both Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2). This, Fernandes did not like one bit and said in response that, in order to give everyone a chance to fly, Malaysia needs a low cost airport with different PSCs.

Fernandes said:

Why am I unhappy with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad and Mavcom, because I want everyone to have a chance to fly. There are different sorts of travellers - one that have and one that don’t. We need two types of airports to give more of those who don’t have a chance to experience what those who have.

He also asked:

There are low-cost airlines, low-cost hotels and low-cost cars. Why not low-cost airports? One does not fit all. We fight for lower ERL (Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd) charges; encourage cheap buses and Uber pool and Grab. Anything to lower cost to allow the common man to dream and fly.

Of course, any BIG points you earn in the campaign, you will be able to redeem for flights with the Malaysian airline.

In a statement, the carrier said:

AirAsia is challenging the public in a unique activation to find 16 hidden doors around Malaysia, snap a photo of them with the door, upload it on Instagram with the given hashtags to earn points, and stand a chance to win over two million BIG Points.

Spencer Lee, AirAsia head of commercial said:

We take pride in unlocking more than 130 destinations in our extensive network, including the less travelled places and yet dream destinations for many.
