AirAsia Bhd.'s long-haul brand has continued its growth momentum as it recorded a strong performance during the second quarter of the current fiscal year.
The budget carrier has registered a 47% year-on-year increase in terms of available seat kilometers to 6.2 million following the launch of its Kuala Lumpur-Nagoya route, its newest and 19th long-haul service.
The low-cost airline also posted a huge 44% year-on-year increase in terms of passenger traffic to 5 million, resulting to an increase in load factor of 80%.
In terms of cargo traffic, AirAsia X managed to grow its available-tonne-km (ATK) by 28% year-on-year increase. However, the airline faltered in the freight-tonne-kilometer (FTK) stats, down by 7.2% year-on-year. The long-haul subsidiary has continued to expand its fleet to 23 aircraft as it took delivery of a leased wide-body long-range A330-300 jetliner early this year.
The carrier has also continued to expand its network with the launch of four new routes this year, which include Chonqing and Xian in China mainland, and Nagoya and Tokyp-Narita in Japan, bringing its total destinations to 19 across Asia and Australia.
