Today was a big day for AirAsia X as the long-haul arm of Malaysia AirAsia made a successful landing at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport on the island of Mauritius.
AirAsia X has thus become the only carrier that flies directly from Malaysia to Mauritius and back. The low-cost carrier will operate three flights per week, departing at 10:25 am from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and arriving at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius at 13:25 pm.
Return flights will take off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Mauritius at 2:55 am and arrive in Malaysia at 14:20 pm.
On board the inaugural flight were several prominent guests, including Kamarudin Meranun (AirAsia X Group CEO), Issop Pattel (High Commissioner of Mauritius to Malaysia), Rafidah Aziz (Chairman of AirAsia X Bhd), Fam Lee Ee (Board of Directors for AAX), Benyamin Ismail (AirAsia X CEO) and Kathleen Tan (President of North Asia). They were all welcomed by the Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority Kevin Ramkeloan.
After the landing, AirAsia X Bhd Chief Executive Officer Benyamin Ismail said a few words:
We’re very excited to be here today, charting a new continent on the route map of AirAsia X with a 100 per cent full flight. The strong entry into this market has given us the confidence we need to grow this direct flight between Mauritius and Kuala Lumpur, operated exclusively by AirAsia X. Together with our short-haul affiliate AirAsia Group, our guests can now fly into Mauritius from any of the destinations within our extensive flight network across Asia, Australia and the Middle East via Kuala Lumpur, Asia’s low cost hub.
In celebration of the successful inaugural Malaysia-Mauritius flight, AirAsia X has announced special all-in one-way fares from as low as RM199 for standard seats and from RM1,599 one-way for Premium Flat-bed seats for guests. The promotional seats can be purchased on airasia.com between 5th October (Wednesday) and 9th October (Sunday) and can be used for the travel period between 5th October this year and 31st March next year.
