AirAsia to Operate from Changi Airport Terminal 4 (T4)

6th Sep 2017

Four airlines under AirAsia Group, along with five other carriers, including Cathay Pacific Airways, Cebu Pacific Air, Spring Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Korean Air will move their operations at Singapore’s Changi Airport from the terminals they are currently using to the new Terminal 4 (T4). The new terminal will open on 31st October.

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific and Korean Air will be the first to make the transition to the new terminal. The two airlines will move to T4 on the opening day, 31st October. They will be followed by Philippines-based Cebu Pacific Air and Chinese Spring Airlines a few days later on 2nd November. Finally, Vietnam Airlines and AirAsia Group’s four carriers will move operations here on 7th November.

The first flight operated from the new terminal will be Cathay Pacific’s XX659 from Hong Kong, which is scheduled to arrive at 5:40 AM. The first flight to depart from the terminal will be CX650 to Hong Kong at 6:50 AM.

Changi Airport Group (CAG) Executive Vice President for Airport Management Mr. Tan Lye Teck said in a statement:

The past months have been a very crucial period for us as we conducted intensive tests and trials, not only to ensure that the systems work well, but also to understand how passengers navigate the new terminal, including interacting with initiatives such as FAST which may be less familiar to them.

Meanwhile, Singapore Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan wrote in a Facebook post the following regarding the opening of the new terminal:

Changi Airport Group (CAG) conducted more than 100 trials involving 2,500 airport staff and 1,500 volunteers from the airport community.

The airport opened the terminal to the public last month to give it a taste of what it can expect once it is up and running. Between 7th and 20th August, visitors could get a self-guided tour around the terminal and see what it offers, including getting a feel of the new Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) technology. Although, most will probably be more interested in the duty-free area.

Thanks to the new terminal, the Changi Airport will now have a capacity of up to 82 million passengers per year. The T4 itself can handle around 16 million passengers annually.
