AirAsia Launches Kuala Lumpur-Luang Prabang Route

Malaysian-based budget carrier AirAsia is already the busiest airline in the ASEAN, operating 15 routes between 7 countries in this region. The airline has now added another route, this time to Laos and it will fly directly between Kuala Lumpur and Luang Prabang.

AirAsia Berhad will be the first and only Malaysia-based carrier to connect with Luang Prabang and it will operate four times per week on this route.

Spencer Lee (AirAsia Head of Commercial) Says Luang Prabang has High Potential

Spencer Lee, Head of Commercial at AirAsia Bhd explained that Luang Prabang is an emerging market and that it has high potential.

Mr Lee said the following at a press conference during the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents fair in the Malaysian capital:

We are pleased to be connecting the rapidly-developing Luang Prabang and the inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur will begin on Nov 21.

Lee also said that both AirAsia and AirAsia X are now offering a 20 per cent discount on all flights to more than 100 destinations during the ongoing Matta fair.

Matta Fair is Back in Penang After Three Years

Nigel Wong, Matta secretary general said the fair was back in Penang after being gone for the last three years. The fair will be held at the Straits Quay Convention Centre between 23rd and 25th September and according to Mr Wong, will be:

Featuring 118 booths from 41 participating agencies, the fair will showcase attractive domestic and international travel package deals.

Wong also said that, in spite of the insecurity in the global economy, the travel industry is still very healthy and domestic travel in particular has picked up momentum due to the weakening ringgit.

Matta fair General Secretary also expressed his optimism that the fair will attract over 15,000 visitors. Buyers, said Wong, will also have the opportunity to win a number of valuable prizes during the fair, including return flights from AirAsia and Cebu Pacific Airlines, Taipei tour packages and many more.

Luang Prabang is the second city in Laos where AirAsia will offer direct flights, after Vientiane.
