AirAsia CEO is Eager to Start Flying to Moscow, are You?

20th Oct 2016

AirAsia could soon add Russia to its list of international destinations. At least this is what Tony Fernandes, Air Asia Group CEO told Vedomosti in an interview he gave on 18th October.

Fernandes said:

My video on Facebook from the Red Square was viewed by 60,000 people in two hours! I got 300 comments, and everyone asked about when AirAsia would start to fly to Russia. Russia is much cheaper for visitors because the ruble is weak. And for Russians, who want to visit another part of the world, Asia is probably cheaper than most other places. I think therefore we have a win-win situation.

That this isn’t just some wishful thinking shows the fact that in March this year, Fernandes met with Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Federation Council when she was visiting Malaysia. Following this meeting, Fernandes tweeted that AirAsia X, AirAsia’s low-cost long-haul subsidiary, wants to launch flights to Russia.

Typhoon Haima Affects a Number of AirAsia Flights

Meanwhile, AirAsia was forced to reschedule or completely cancel several flights from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi to Southern China and Taiwan due to Typhoon Haima on Thursday and Friday.

The airline said in a statement:

All affected guests will be notified by AirAsia via e-mail and SMS. The airline strongly recommends all guests to update their contact details at airasia.com to ensure that they are notified of any updates to their flights. AirAsia is closely monitoring the potential impact of this storm and will continue to update guests in a timely manner on any changes due to Typhoon Haima.

AirAsia Passengers Can Now Book and Manage Flights Using LINE App

AirAsia passengers from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia will now have a much easier way to book and manage their flights, using the LINE app.

To do this, they will have to first link their AirAsia BIG member accounts to their LINE accounts and use the “Manage My Booking” function, just like the one on airasia.com and the mobile app.

AirAsia Group Chief Commercial Officer Siegtraund Teh said:

Through this partnership with LINE, we hope to create a more seamless flow from offer to booking while giving our guests additional payment option.

A spokesperson for LINE said in a statement:

We are excited to offer a greater user experience to LINE users in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia through our collaboration with leading airlines like AirAsia on LINE Business Connect. In order to meet all needs that our users encounter in a continually changing mobile environment, we will continue to widen the benefits of our Smart Portal beyond standard messaging.
