AirAsia Cancels Kuala Lumpur-Goa Service

11th May 2016

One of the largest low-cost carriers in Asia, AirAsia Berhad has announced today a big change in its flight plan. Namely, the LCC is suspending its service from Kuala Lumpur to Goa, which includes three flights per week. This decision will be effective as of 7th June.

AirAsia hasn’t forgotten about its customers who will be affected by this change and said it would offer options to passengers in order to help ease their possible inconveniences.

A statement from the carrier about this said:

They (passengers) will be notified directly via their registered member email account, as well as via an SMS notification.

The airline also advised its customers to make sure that their AirAsia member profiles have up-to-date email addresses and mobile phone numbers with their respective country code prefix.

Affected passengers will be able to get on an earlier flight before the route suspension kicks off, or they can get a full refund.

Spencer Lee, Head of Commercial at AirAsia Bhd said the airline has taken “very careful considerations for every new route.

He also added:

However, this suspension is due to our route rationalization exercise. Despite this route adjustment, we remain committed to the Indian market and look forward to return to Goa in the future.

AirAsia X “Cautiously Optimistic” Following Q1 Results

Upon posting the results for the 1st quarter of 2016, AirAsia X, subsidiary of AirAsia Bhd, has voiced “cautious optimism”.

The long-haul, low-cost carrier saw its load factor go up by 8 percentage points (8 ppts) and reach 82 per cent in the Q1 of 2016. This was in good deal due to traffic increasing 19 per cent year-on-year (YoY), with strong demand from Australia and China helping the matter the most.

The airline said in a statement regarding its first quarterly result for the year:

Moving forward in 2016, the group remains cautiously optimistic as the challenging operating environment is expected to persist with current volatility, regulatory uncertainty and other external factors beyond the group’s control. The group remains prudent in its expansion plan and continues to explore strategic initiatives to ensure sustainable growth.
