RMAF Butterworth (BWH), Butterworth

RMAF Butterworth airport is a military airport mainly used by the Military Defense Forcce Malaysia.

It is located in Butterworth which is in the State of Penang, Malaysia and is operated by the Royal Malaysian Air force.

The airport was opened officially in 1941 and was part of the British defense plan to counter the invasion threat by Japanese forces. The airport has an asphalt surface and a runway with a length of 2438 feet.

The air field changed hands a few time since it was opened and is the current venue for the Five Power Defence Arrangements headquarters which serves Singapore and Malaysia and is headed by an Australian Air Vice Marshal.

It is known by the ICAO code WMKB and IATA BWH.
