AirAsia Flies Kuching-Pontianak, Indonesia

1st Apr 2017

Malaysian airline AirAsia Berhad will start direct flights from Kuching in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia to Pontianak, Indonesia from 5th June this year. Flights will be operated exclusively by AirAsia (so it won’t include AirAsia X) and will use flight code AK1028 from Kuching to Pontianak and flight code AK1029 from Pontianak to Kuching.

AK1028 will depart from Kuching Airport at 11:55 am and will arrive in Pontianak at 11:45 am (West Indonesia time). The return flight, AK1029 will take off from the runway in Pontianak at 12:10 am, local time, and is scheduled to land in Kuching at 1:50 am (Malaysian time).

In a statement announcing the new route, Spencer Lee, AirAsia head of commercial, said the company was excited to offer more connectivity to its guests between Malaysia and Indonesia.

This is the second international flight AirAsia flies from Kuching. In addition to those two, the airline also flies eight more domestic flights from the city. This is also the carrier’s second flight from Malaysia to Indonesia.

AirAsia Head of Commercial said:

We are confident this new route will contribute to the five million tourists target for Sarawak this year aside from boosting the local economy and trade sector.

To celebrate the new route, AirAsia is offering passengers all-in fares starting at RM89 one-way. You can grab these from now until 2nd April and use them to travel from 5th June to 30th September, this year.

In addition, there’s also some good news for AirAsia BIG members. During the promotion period, they will have the opportunity to double their AirAsia BIG Points on the base fare. To learn more about this offer, visit airasia.com, or use AirAsia’s mobile app or Android or iPhone devices.

This will be the second direct flight to Pontianak for AirAsia, as the airline already flies here from Kuala Lumpur. AirAsia also flies 438 flights per week between Kuching and nine other destinations. These include Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Bintulu, Sibu, Miri, Kota Bahru, and Singapore.

Pontianak is the capital of the West Kalimantan province in Indonesia. The city also called “Kota Khatulistiwa” or “Equator City”, being the only city in the world sitting on the Equator.
